Affiliate marketing is often seen as the underworld of marketing.
This unusual form of marketing involves selling products or services you don’t fulfill in return for a commission ranging between 20%–50% of the sale price. I was a non-believer of affiliate marketing for a long time. Why?

Creative people used to be a joke.
In high school, I told people I was going to be a musician. They laughed out loud at me. I grew up with odd characters who wrote poetry. They too were laughed at. I had a friend who was a standup comedian. He tried to do it professionally. People at the bank he worked at during the day laughed at his nighttime gig.
Then there are writers. …

Warren Buffet gets a lot of the attention in the investing world. Most people don’t know his badass 97-year-old partner Charlie Munger.
Charlie is a strange chappy. A famous investor named Bill Miller once approached Charlie on a street in New York expecting a warm embrace, as they’d met before. The response from Charlie demonstrated what kind of no BS character he is.
“Who the hell are you?”
Charlie doesn’t have time for idiots. He’s direct and to the point. But he’s not an a**hole. In fact, he is known to be extremely generous to his fans. At conferences he’s…

Even cavemen probably said ‘do what you love’ once upon a time.
It’s an idea that has existed for a long time. Parents tell their younglings after high school “do what you love little Freddy. You’re going to change the world when you do, darling” (ohhh cute!).
I subscribed to this advice too. I tweeted “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” Then this tweet below slapped me in this face.
Popular sentiment: “Choose what you love for work, and do it forever.”
Wrong.

Bitcoin and Ethereum took the beating of a lifetime in 2021.
There has been a big pump in price earlier in the year, followed by the Elon dump that some say he did as a form of billionaire fun. The markets for cryptocurrencies led by Bitcoin and Ethereum are slowly rebuilding. A strong foundation in price and new users joining both networks is forming.
If the network effects of both cryptocurrencies continue as public data suggests, then a new supercycle is imminent. …

A day can easily turn into a train wreck.
Bad days get a terrible wrap. They’re often thought of as not worth resuscitating. We let our bad days die and then hope tomorrow is a good day.
I murdered entire days too. I let frustration win. Then I came across a bizarre technique. It’s definitely not a popular idea, but helps to cure a bad day.
I was about to start a new job … and move house, and move in with my partner, and start a new business.
All of the events occurred in a single day and nothing…

This moment makes me extremely emotional. Most of my career was spent fighting an invisible battle in my head every single day. Things got so dark that I contemplated leaving the workforce forever and living with an elderly relative who survived on government benefits. Thinking about what could have happened if I kept going down that path scares me.
I shared this story on LinkedIn about battling mental illness at work. I didn’t expect hundreds of thousands of people to react to the post and tell their own stories. My inbox lit up. …

Productivity guilt is a silent battle fought behind closed doors.
You hear people brag about how productive they are, and how they’re better than you at ticking goals off and winning Olympic gold medals while you’re stuck in your apartment on the couch being lazy. I’m slightly obsessed with productivity. Things got crazy in 2015 when I had a near-miss with cancer.
Suddenly I faced the grim reality of, “What if this is it?”
From that day on I didn’t want to waste time anymore. No time for messing around. No time for jerks. No time for hate. …

Entrepreneurs can be real douchebags.
The people who identify as entrepreneurs are often pretenders. They’re the ones looking for fame and glory by running a business and making money.
Look at the WeWork founder. Look at the Theranos founder. Yuck.
I prefer to spend time with people who are on their way to becoming entrepreneurs and don’t even know it. They have a certain level of humility that is contagious.
The label of entrepreneur is pretty misleading. …
